Sound-responsive realtime software and inkjet print series derived from a system for live visual performance. Spectral characteristics of sound are mapped to lines of color that fade or intensify according to energy levels in their respective pitch bands. Parameters like attack, fade and speed of movement are manipulated to produce different readings of the sound.

Generative visuals based on subdivision algorithms (also known as cracking), applied to 2D/3D triangle meshes.

Anni Albers

Anni Albers was a German-born textile designer who was one of the most influential figures in textile arts in the 20th century. In addition to creating striking designs for utilitarian woven objects, she helped to reestablish work in textiles as an art form. She was married to the innovative painter and theoretician Josef Albers, who shared her interest in the pursuit of experimental design and Modernism.

Her patterns are made up of simple shapes but they are quite complex.

It looks like she was using only a squared notebook as a grid for this triangle based design.



Golan Levin

Golan Levin develops artifacts and experiences which explore the expressive use of computation. His work focuses on the design of systems for the creation, manipulation and performance of simultaneous image and sound, as part of a more general inquiry into the formal language of interactivity, and of nonverbal communications protocols in cybernetic systems. Through performances, digital artifacts, and virtual environments, often created with a variety of collaborators, Levin applies creative twists to digital technologies that highlight our relationship with machines, make visible our ways of interacting with each other, and explore the intersection of abstract communication and interactivity. Levin has exhibited widely in Europe, America and Asia.

He creates interactive work.

Aaron Koblin

Aaron Koblin is an artist specializing in data and digital technologies. His work takes real world and community-generated data and uses it to reflect on cultural trends and the changing relationship between humans and technology.

He uses computer softwares to visualise data. Again, just like with Casey Reas’ work i feel like it could be abstract art as well although Koblins work looks more digital. In the visualisation above he collected data from flight in the United States.

The Sheep Market is a collection of 10,000 sheep created by workers on Amazon’s Mechanical Turk. Each worker was paid $.02 (US) to “draw a sheep facing left.”


Casey Reas

Casey Reas writes software to explore conditional systems as art. Through defining emergent networks and layered instructions, he has defined a unique area of visual experience that builds upon concrete art, conceptual art, experimental animation, and drawing. While dynamic, generative software remains his core medium, work in variable media including prints, objects, installations, and performances materialise from his visual systems.

His work reminds me to abstract paintings. Very similar the difference is the technique instead of paint brushes he uses computer software to create his art.

Some of his work looks quite organic, natural. The work above looks like  dandelions to me.
